Naz316
little confused when it comes to blocking/guarding. Played Hunt for the Tigress last night and Belit starts with a shield. Does she get to roll a die regardless if she spend gems or not since she is carrying a shield? So therefore if she happens to spend all of her gems she is still able to block due to carrying a shield is the basic question? And the opposite if she does not have any equipment then she has to spend gems to try to guard. Same would go for armor etc... on any hero. As long as they have a piece of equipment with block ability does it cost gems to roll die for those pcs. of equipment or do you have to put gems in the block and you just get the extra die the equipment provides? thanks and sorry for the rambling of question. Not Quite Dead
Hi, @Naz316! There is two ways to defend an unit in Conan (regardless if it is a Hero or one of the Overlord's creatures). The icon with an helmet gives you the Passive Defense: this will apply regardless of if the player defends themselves or not. You find this on the Overlord's tiles or on equipment cards. It may be a number (that you will subtract from the number of success of the attack) or a die to roll (and you will subtract the number of success from the number of success of the attack). The icon with a shield gives you the Guard, which is an Active Defense: this will apply only if the player use one gem (or more) to defend themselves. You find this on the Book of Skelos, on Hero Sheets or on equipment cards. In your example, in order to use Belit's shield, the player has to use one gem (or more) in defense. The dice of the shield (or of any equipment card with the Shield Icon) are then added to the dice given by the gems used by the player. If the player chooses not to use gem(s) to guard, he may only subtract the Passive Defense from the number of success of the attack. Two more things about Defense: - There is a misprint on some Overlord's tiles, featuring an Active Defense icon, when it should be a Passive one. More about that on this topic: - When falling damage occurs, the number of wounds is applied regardless of the Passive Defense, and it is not possible to use an Active Defense in order to be less wounded by the fall. The only way to reduce damage from falling is to have the Skill Leap (). I hope I managed to explained it more clearly.
