The base indeed is a bit too big. I think I'll make a smaller one. But no flock etc, I never do this to miniatures (I don't know why, but I don't...)

Yes, I agree. I was thinking of making one of the mouths open, but I was afraid I wouldn't succeed, and it would look like the head is talking :)

Dear friends,

after making a Hydra (see other post), I decided to also make a Cerberus, which is a very nice and scary monster. To make it, I was forced to slaughter three cute Jack Rassels, and a French Bulldog by Safari Ltd.

Here are the poor critters

I started the massacre by cutting off the heads of all four dogs. Then, I drilled three holes into the head stump of the bulldog (whose body would become the Cerberus body) and inserted pins, so I could secure the other heads.

I then cut off the ears of the three JR heads and attached them to the body via the pins. This was actually a mistake: I should have created the new ears and attached them to the heads before connecting them to the body...

Anyway, I then used epoxy putty to cover the joints, and create the ears and the tail of the beast.

Left everything to dry, and then painted the whole thing. Here it is, complete and with Mr. Conan next to it for size comparison.

I hope you like it.

Now if only I had the Cerberus card, or even it's stats...

PS. Please be careful when talking about your modelling adventures in public areas. When I was describing the creation of the Cerberus to a friend via cell phone this morning, I noticed a few terrified looks when I described "how I cut off the heads of three Jack Russells"...

Bawon Samdi's idea to scratch-build the Winged Ape from the crossover set of Mythic Battles, made me itchy to create even more mini substitutes myself. The first that came to mind was the Hydra, which was advertised together with the Winged Ape. So, I made one.

Maybe it's not as terrifying as the original, but it will do the work :)

What I used for the project was an old Allosaurus miniature from Safari ltd. Strangely enough, the only image of this mini I could find, was this one

Anyway, I cut it's head and back legs off, cut the palms of the front legs and turned them 90^ο so that they are "stepping" on the ground, and "shaved" the belly so it can stand better.. 

Then, I cut the heads of four (five was too much for me to handle) heads from brachiosauruses I got from cheap toy sets (I think they're called "Dinosaur World" or something), and attached them where the old head used to be (I had to drill holes to both the heads and the body, so I can use pins to secure the heads - just glueing them was not enough).

The result was this

As you can see, I "shaved" the heads, as they resembled duck heads...

I then used epoxy putty to hide the heads - body joints, made back legs and a tail again from epoxy putty.

I made a back fin from carton, and a "nose job" to each head, you guessed it, with epoxy putty.

Attached the whole thing to a round carton base, painted it, and voila.

It's easier than it sounds, but you'll really need some tools to cut off the heads and feet. my trusty Dremel did the trick.

PS. Next project: the Cerberus

If you see the drawing on the tile, the Ape has a belt. Now if this is mentioned in the story, or it's just the artist's thing, I honestly don't know...

enchanted by Bawon Samdi's idea, I decided to create the Winged Ape myself! Here is the result:

I bought a painted King Kondo (no time or talent to paint one from scratch), and for the wings, I used the ones from a Plastoy Red Dragon:

And added some epoxy putty above them, to cover my tracks :)

The base is a simple thick cardboard circle (without it, the Ape would fall because of the wings' weight)

The belt is scratch buit from cardboard and pin heads.

That's all! I hope you like it.

When I was young (30 years ago?), I had played this, but only from borrowed copies. Around 10 years ago, I finally bought mine, together with all the expansions, pretty proud that I finally owned it! And then I decided to teach my wife how to play. After one game her comment was "It's nice... but that Wizard is pretty useless, isn't he?" I laughed at this comment... And never played the game again.

Ah, well. I'll teach her Conan now. I'm sure she'll like it more.

Hello my friends.

If, like me, you think that the Dragon that was offered in the KS of the game was horrible ( I recently saw painted photos of it from a preview of the Book of Set, and I shrugged), you probably are out searching for a good alternative. Well, I found one, and I'd like to share it with you. It's the Behemoth figure from Safari LTD. It's cheap, pre-painted, and most of all, IT LOOKS LIKE A DRAGON. 

Here are 2 images of this magnificent beast.

Don't you think it's a much better choice?

Of course you'll need the tile for the big fella. I've created it using the original as a guide. You'll find them attached to this message.
