  1. Whispers from Stygia Special EditionCONAN_Whispers_From_Stygia_Self_Print-1.thumb.jpg.5d2932197d4962f7dafb39ff657a2984.jpg

"Know, O Prince, that in the time when Conan the Cimmerian sat upon the Throne of Aquilonia there arose whispers from Stygia. Whispers of a scheming sorcerer whose black heart
    was set upon vengeance ..."

Whispers from Stygia Special Edition is an updated campaign originally released in 2018. It was designed by the Conan Overlord Community at the-overlord.net. This special edition requires the Core game, as well as the following expansions: Stygia , Khitai , Nordheim , Yogah of Yag , Crossbowmen, and the Kushite Witch Hunters .

This special edition contains 7 Adventure Mode scenarios in a campaign where the outcome of each scenario will determine how well equipped the heroes and overlord are when they meet in the final scenario, which will determine the winner. It also includes the same 7 scenarios converted to Solo/Coop Mode, for a total of 14 scenarios. It also includes the relevant game board rules for easy access, as well as campaign rules for both game modes.

Finally, we are providing this special edition in three formats:

    1. Web Version - this is a single PDF file that you can use digitally. The images have been compressed. CONAN_Whispers_From_Stygia_Web.pdf

    2. Self Print - this is a single PDF file that you can print at home or your local print shop. CONAN_Whispers_From_Stygia_Self_Print.pdf

    3. Hardcover Edition - this is two PDF files, one for the cover and the second for the interior content that you can send to a print-on-demand service for a hardback book. I will also provide step-by-step instructions on how to use Lulu, if you choose them as your print-on-demand service.

    Hardcover Printing Instructions for Luluimage.thumb.png.c2980404d96cbbb902fa6b05bee58482.png

Since this is a free, fan-made book, I am not morally or legally allowed to set up a print on demand distribution. Which means you will need to set up an account with a print on demand company and upload files for printing (for personal use only). The directions I list below are for the company Lulu, but you are free to use any print on demand company you choose.
    1. Go to lulu.com and create an account.
    2. Under the CREATE tab, click the PRINT BOOKS option.
    3. Click the button START YOUR PRINT BOOK
    4. Enter your login credentials
    5. In the START YOUR PROJECT section, choose PRINT BOOK
    6. In the SELECT YOUR GOAL section, choose PRINT YOUR BOOK. (Do NOT select Publish your book for sale on Amazon. You will get sued. 🙂 )
    7. In the BOOK DETAILS section, enter a project title of your choice. I recommend Whispers from Stygia. Enter a language and CATEGORY, which is required..
    8. Click the DESIGN YOUR PROJECT button at the bottom of the page to proceed to the Design page
    9. In the INTERIOR FILE UPLOAD section, upload the file named “CONAN_Whispers_From_Stygia_Hardback_Interior.pdf”
    10. Wait for the file to upload and normalize. This can take a few minutes. Be patient and get yourself a cold beverage.
    11. When the upload finishes, you will see some warnings. Like most warnings in life, feel free to ignore these.
    12. In the BOOK SPECIFICATIONS section, the BOOK SIZE AND PAGE COUNT should already be pre-filled at A4 and 40 pages, respectively.
    13. In the INTERIOR COLOR section, choose COLOR PREMIUM for the best quality color.
    14. In the PAPER TYPE section, choose 80# COATED WHITE for the best paper quality.
    15. In the BOOK BINDING section, choose HARDCOVER. Feel free to choose a different binding if that floats your boat.
    16. In the COVER FINISH section, choose GLOSSY (because who doesn’t like glossy over Matte, right?)
    17. Wait a moment for the PRINT COST to load. For me it is $15.55. This is a printing fee for Lulu, and I do not receive a penny of this, nor does Monolith.
    18. In the DESIGN YOUR COVER section, make sure the UPLOAD COVER FILE option is selected.
    19. Upload the file named “CONAN_Whispers_From_Stygia_Hardback_Cover.pdf”
    20. After a minute, the PREVIEW will load. This preview will give you a basic idea of what the book will be like, but it is just a preview and not super-high quality.
    21. When you are ready, click the REVIEW BOOK link at the bottom.
    22. This brings you to a page where you can review the final specifications. Click the checkbox next to CONFIRM BOOK SPECIFICATIONS AND FILES
    23. Click the ADD TO CART button when it becomes enabled
    24. Click the CART icon at the top of the page and make the purchase. The shipping for me was around $5.00, but of course that will vary depending where you are located. (Also keep an eye out for discount codes on the home page.)

Feel free to print a copy for  yourself or your friends, but DO NOT PRINT COPIES FOR SALE.
Note: The hardback book I received from Lulu was not perfect. There was an alignment issue with the binding, there was a scratch on the back cover, the interior margins were tight, and the endsheets were a boring white. Overall, however, I am highly pleased.

I'll play one this Friday night.

Only one I don't have is crossbowmen. And even on EBAY at $80 they are rare and expensive. So I'll play the ones that don't use that figure.  On that note any good proxy crossbowmen that you have heard about?

You can replace the Crossbowmen with Bossonian Archers. Not quite the same, but close enough. You will have to proxy a couple of archers in The Trap, but no big worries.

  3. Whispers from Stygia Playtesting Request

Here is the solo/coop version of Whispers from Stygia for playtesting. Anyone is welcome to download and playtest.

    Deadline

I ask that all feedback be submitted by November 18.

    Requirements:

    - Stygia
    - Khitai
    - Nordheim
    - Yogah of Yag
    - Crossbowmen
    - Kushite Witch Hunters

    - Wolves (optional)

    Download WIP version here

    CONAN_Whispers_From_Stygia_WIP_Web.pdf

    Submitting Scenario Feedback

I created an online survey for each scenario, so submitting feedback should be easy. Here are the links to each survey. I have also included the links to the survey pages in the PDF.

Scenario 1: The Time for Flight is Nigh

    Scenario 2: Fight or Flight

    Scenario 3: An Unfortunate Interruption

Scenario 4: The Fate of Yag-Kosha

    Scenario 5: Dreams of Atali

Scenario 6: The Streets of Khemi

    Scenario 7: The Trap

    Submitting Campaign Feedback

This booklet contains campaign and board rules in addition to specific scenarios. If you have feedback for any non-campaign related issues, or specific questions about scenarios that are not covered in the scenario surveys, feel free to ask them in this past.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  4. Monolith thanked us when the Kickstarter ended back in March. If that is what you are looking for, you can find it at the link below. Since then there, have been 27 updates, ranging from reprint surveys to designer notes to product samples. Their communication has been absolutely fine. As a late pledger, you won't receive email notifications when they post updates, so I recommend you occasionally check on the Kickstarter page (but don't expect updates every 10 days).

Question from the FR forums :

If the Heroes lose Scenario # 1 due to turn limit (all heroes alive), do they lose their stuff (in that case, the crown of Xuthal) for the scenario # 2 or not?

I'd say that they lose their stuff, but it's not 200% explicit in scenario # 1 (it's more explicit in the subsequent ones).

Good question, I can see how this isn't clear. Heroes need to win the scenario to keep the crown, although the one carrying the crown doesn't have to exit the building (unless it is Hadrathus). Hadrathus gets to keep the spellbook even if they lose.

After I'm done working on the Tome of Skelos, I plan on revisiting Whispers from Stygia to tighten up the campaign, add Dan's bonus scenario, and add solo mode to all the scenarios. It will probably take a while to get this done, but it is in the works.

  6. Glad tidings from the Nemedian Chroniclers!

Mitra appeared to us in lotus dreams (as we have been indulging in much lotus lately) and commanded us to deliver to you a very special Chronicle.
During weeks of isolation in our web shrouded towers, we collaborated across the gulfs of space and time to weave for you a chilling tale of sorcery and betrayal that sets into motion the adventure found in the Tome of Skelos.  What sinister events transpired to bewitch the sea captain and drive him to madness? The answer may lay back in the village…

Written by Dan Mauric, “Back in the Village” serves as an introduction to the solo/ co-op campaign found in the upcoming Tome of Skelos. This free download does not replace any content of the Tome. It is a gift for the faithful and fanatical supporters of The Conqueror Kickstarter to help weather the strange season we find ourselves in.

This new scenario uses only Core Box components and offers suggestions for adding a 4th player. We’ve also included some additional hero options in case some don’t return to the ship…

Have you tried converting any other existing scenarios? I'm thinking of trying that myself and wanted to see if you had any tips.

No, I haven't tried converting any other official scenarios, although I am in the middle of converting the Whispers from Stygia campaign into solo/co-op mode.

As for tips, here are a few:

    • Set the game up as regular adventure mode and start playing. When you get to the Overlord's turn, apply the targeting mechanism from the solo/co-op rules. If you find the Overlord unit's actions have a lot of ambiguity, or they don't make sense, focus your efforts on creating a rule to address that problem.
    • Make sure you create a rule for every Overlord decision that needs to be made.
    • Also, make sure you maintain a high level of pressure on the heroes.

  8. Originally I didn't think I would care for the 1v1 system, but it is growing on me. I prefer this KS rather than Batman because I like the Conan IP better and the minis can be used in other game systems. The progress of this campaign has disappointed me, since I have no doubt that the next Conan KS would be the adventure mode Red Nails that we all wanted.

What really has me upset is the attitude I saw from people wishing ill-will on Monolith. Instead of voting with their wallets and not buying it, they started screaming from the rooftops that Monolith should fail and/or go out of business. And it wasn't just casual commenting, there were people camping out to shout down anyone who tried to remain positive. There is a difference between expressing an opinion and aggressively trying to sabotage a campaign. As a fan, I put a lot of effort into making fan-made scenarios for this community, and now I feel like this community stabbed me in the back.

    Absolutely, that would be great!

For our last campaign, Whispers from Stygia, someone with the username Chips on the French forum translated. You might want to reach out to him for help/advice.

  10. Chronicles-of-Vengeance-Cover.thumb.jpg.91ff3e9591ad0dc7dbf149474f2925ca.jpg

    Chronicles of Vengeance

"Know, oh Prince, that in the early days of Conan's reign as King in Aquilonia, deep ran the inevitable streams of offense. Real or imagined, in all corners of the kingdom, sulked those whose pride, fortune or self was wounded in one manner or another by the Cimmerian's meteoric ascent to power."

These scenarios are meant to be played as a campaign where the players accumulate equipment, spells, and other elements. It follows the solo/cooperative rules laid out in the Monolith Source Book published by Modiphius Entertainment for rules such as Overlord activations, hero targeting, Overlord re-rolls, and allowed skills. Please note that the Campaign rules for Chronicles of Vengeance differ from the Monolith Source Book campaign, The Lost Scrawlings of Skelos.

This campaign requires the Conan Core game as well as the following expansions:

    • King’s Pledge
    • Stygia
    • Khitai
    • Nordheim
    • Forbidden Places and Pits of Horror (Modiphius tiles)
    • Perilous Ruins and Forgotten Cities (Modiphius tiles)

Chronicles of Vengeance introduces a new archetype: the Summoner. Summoners are Sorcerers who turned to the darker arts. In addition to the standard Sorcerer options, Chronicles of Vengeance offers new printable character sheets in an appendix for Summoners, as well as for playable Demons.

Chronicles of Vengeance was written by the Nemedian Chroniclers, a group of fans dedicated to making high quality Conan scenarios. If you enjoy playing these scenarios, please leave a comment letting us know, or feel free to share tales and photos of your adventures.

  11. I know this app isn't getting a lot of acknowledgement here, but this app is fantastic for both designing and playing scenarios. I have already found it very useful (as well as the other site Footballzs mentioned). I love the fan dedication to this game.

I love the idea of adding scenarios to this app. Since you already added the ability for the user to mark which products they have, if you include sort/filter functionality for the scenarios, it would help people a lot.

As a creator of fan-made scenarios, I would love it if you included some fan-made scenarios, but quality control for that might be a significant task. Have you shared this on the Conan Facebook groups?

Also, are you planning on adding anything for the upcoming solo/coop mode?
