  1. How much rerolling are we talking? Like all of the dice all of the time or are these one-time uses? Talking about the attack dice here. Sounds like the one that can really be a big deal overall, others don't seem like dealbreakers.
  2. @Matt John S Ah, didn't catch you going for dreamworld, we could call this interdimensional or a far-away point after going through the portal and I think it would still work without overusing the concept. Your call in the end, we can chat more about the actual thematic reasoning for it down the line and you can tell me more about what yours entails so that I can steer away from it, but the dual map aspect is what I'd want to keep in regardless. Optional is what I was going for, yes, since the whole main layout was already mostly in place by the time I pitched mine and that also lets me get away with things like Pallantides and Black Dragons so no problem there. I think I'm good with mid-February for a near-finish with the caveat that I'll be out of the country 21-25th so there's going to be little to nothing done on my part in that week aside from probably some virtual fine-tuning.
  3. @Matt John S Scenario nutshell: - King Conan has premonitions/nightmares of his death at the hand of Amon - Pallantides thinks he's being cursed and finds a contact to help with a ritual to fight this - heroes and Pallantides along with guards meet with contact in tavern and are soon attacked by some minions - portal opened to "dreamworld" within which Conan's premonitions are taking place - heroes fight on 2 fronts: holding the portal open and safe from minions and helping Conan reverse the ending of the premonition in the dreamworld The idea of the final scenario being a showdown on the Fortress map would be a neat book-end to this, especially with Conan making an appearance, and any boons/hindrances depending on the outcome of my scenario could also be implemented there. Hope that's a helpful framework to make sense of things :) Also, could I also throw my hat in for a FB group with a pinned post and links to the threads for each scenario? This foruming thing with replies a million miles away from initial comments is kind of doing my 24-yo millennial head in :))
  4. Throwing my 2c in with the optional I had in mind: using the Fortress for the final scenario is perfect for me on account of the whole "premonition" thing I'd concocted. Having the final battle go off more or less the same way (or taking cues from) the optional would be a fun thing to weave in and out of the main idea of the scenario as well as be sort of easter-egg-y for those who go for the optional. Colour me giddy.
  5. Found it. Interesting take, I'll definitely have a look at the balancing, I was also thinking about simultaneous effects but was unsure how to implement them so that could also help. Cheers!
  6. Have not, actually, will have a look. It's on here somewhere, right?
  7. Little late to the party, but my first pitch would fall into the "optional" category. As I've said before, I had an idea of a "dreamworld" scenario in which the heroes are transported to either retrieve something or put an end to a curse-like spell. The caveat is that I thought about this revolving around Conan, so tell me if you'd like us to keep with this or if I should change the main character idea so that we may more easily negotiate things with him down the line. I'm going to use some of the points you've made before, as well as some of the KS content as I feel it makes sense in the circumstances (but I could tweak it so that it goes with pretty much any setup we like once we set it in a timeline) so it goes like this (and I may be taking some lore-related liberties): Hadrathus finally gains an audience with King Conan, but between bureaucracy and other events overlapping, the heroes can't get a direct audience with him. Instead, Pallantides approaches them with a request on Conan's behalf. It seems the King has heard of Thoth-Amon's threat, and would gladly jump at the opportunity to stretch his sinews and lash out at the necromancer. But there are others who think it wiser to pursue a tangential issue first... The King has been having premonition-like nightmares for the better part of a few months, not long after Hadrathus first found out about Thoth-Amon's plans. In them, Conan does face-off against this foe alongside a band of adventurers, but he dies while simultaneously taking Thoth-Amon down as well. While Conan himself takes no issue in this, real or not as the premonitions may be, there are others who feel it wiser to take all stepts for the crown to remain upon his head for a while longer. It has come to the attention of Pallantides and others that there may be a way to ensure the nightmares never come to pass, but a complicated ritual must take place, and it involves transferring the essence of those involved into another plane of existence to "kill" the nightmarish apparition itself. There is a contact that Pallantides has made at a local inn that is vital to the cause, so they must travel there first in order to perform the ritual and transferrence. Here's where it gets tricky, and stop me if I go too far. I want to blend 2 maps into one scenario (tavern and fortress) and have both of them go on at the same time. The idea is to split the party (Don't I know it...) and have half (or so) accompanied by some Black Dragons remain in the taver and face off against some regular troops, while the rest goes over into the "dreamworld", and fights alongside Conan (the core box Conan or Conan the Wanderer, in any case one of the variants of him as a free spirit rather than a King dealing with kingly minutiae) to take on the apparition of Thoth-Amon and his clique of demons and spirits, of which there are enough in the Core to have this proxied if need be. There are lots of balancing issues and fiddling, I agree, but this could be truly something else and something worthy of such a glorious arc as we have planned. The only setup issue would be the Overlord dealing with action in 2 spots at once as the heroes will be split anyway and only focus on one half of things anyway. Should they win, Conan gets a powerful boon in the final battle (maybe a healing spell or a reroll-to-end-all-rerolls, jury's still out). Should they fail, Thoth-Amon will benefit from either an event that the OL can trigger against Conan, an increased damage output against him, or our barbie will simply suffer from a lessening of his abilities overall in this final fight so that he faces an increased risk of being defeated. Heroes: Hadrathus Pallantides Black Dragons x5 Yogah *pepper liberally with your other choices so that we may keep this consistent* Debating whether to add some more "mercenary" options for adventurers who seek to gain Conan's favour and pledge themselves to aid in this endeavour. Opponents: Tavern: Guards x5 led by a single villain character Fortress: Skeletons, Mummies, Bone Golem, Forest Demon, GIant Snake, Thog, T-A's apparition... Not all at once, of course, just laying out some possibilities. I know it's a lot to take in, but the concept has me chomping at the bit to see it unfurl, so lend me your C&C.
  8. We could all pitch in 1-2 pieces and see what comes of it this Sunday. Optional missions adding non-retail content also sounds like a fair trade-off to me, but we need to either make sure they're not all made up of extra-only pieces (lest retail buyers skip them on principle), make them proxy-patible, or balance them out with some retail-only optionals as well. Did anybody already pick up the Yogah scenario idea yet? If so, I'd like to link up to it so maybe we can talk ideas.
  9. Hi all! Glad to be in here, and anxious to write something for the whole ordeal, been spending the last couple days reading through this and rummaging some ideas. I'll just jump into the first thing that got my lights tingling: campaign length. Some will go for long, some will prefer it to be short and pack a punch, but we could go with optional missions that can either be bypassed or done in full within the confines of the narrative, and still have everything makes sense. The second reason for this, aside from the modular aspect, is that we can introduce a sense of urgency vs. preparation to the whole thing. I've always enjoyed being posed with the "do we go gear up some more and risk allowing the big 'un to grow stronger or do we just face him now and hope for the best?". I haven't got much to go on so far, but anything from the gems you guys mentioned "piling up" in favour of the Overlord if the players push to seek an artefact/weapon of some sort, or extra "plot points" that the OL can employ to throw monkey wrenches in the heroes' plans. Speaking of flying monkeys and wrenches, how would you guys feel about an event table for both sides? Nothing major, just some thematic, one-off effects that can be triggered by spending gems. I'm a sucker for campaign-specific mechanisms and small modules added on to make each experience unique. Would help replayability as well, I feel. Final thought for now, someone mentioned the heroes getting Conan to fight on their side (does Conan being an optional ally still stand or is he just a hero that may be chosen at the start? I may have missed it, and if that's the case disregard what follows or we can apply it to Yogah). Two ways this could go, and I'd like input on these as one of them might be a bit iffy: 1. The heroes' actions have tangential links to Conan - either speaking to him directly or via proxy, meeting others who have spoken with him and so on - and their actions work towards getting him to join them for the final assault or not. Rather than the one-off style of "win this and he comes" missions, I think it would speak towards a ruthless Conan who thinks about his benefit in the matter and will only commit to something if it suits his purpose/if the participants are worth it. This could be summed up as a die roll with bonuses/penalties that the heroes accrue along the way. 2. Try to make the mission that gives the heroes the option to play as/ally with Conan (or Yogah, as may be the case) into a highly atmospheric, dream-like sequence where the heroes literally step into another dimension, this allowing us to play with a lot of the weirder content than can be found in both core as well as expansions. The Fortress could be a good setting for this, and the gribblies can be plenty, including foes the heroes may have already bested. I currently have access to a King Pledge, along with KS Exclusives (and some Black Dragons I've just unwrapped and found one has an arm loose, womp-womp...) so that's what I'll be working with, mostly, but I can always proxy when playtesting comes around, just to pitch in more in that regard. I'd appreciate your input on the matter as well as any other pointers as to what's left to tackle (I take it mid-campaign missions are up for grabs?). Cheers! Cozzy
