I have some questions regarding this scenario:

    1) Jumping from ship to ship.

How many movement points does it cost?

What does happen to a character failing the jumping test?

If he remains on the original area, can he try to jump again in the same turn (spending more movement points)?

If he falls down to the sea, is him automatically killed or can he be activated normally to fight/nive/climb back to the ship?

    2) Thaugh

He does not have Reach, so he can't attack in close combat and there is only one OL character (N'gora) that can make distance attacks, but even with a maximum attack roll, he can't hurt Thaugh. What's the point giving him a life point score?

I just read it and it appears as though a special rule is missing on how the tentacles are treated. I would assume that you can activate the tentacles somehow, probably at the same time as Thaug is activated. l also suspect that each time you destroy a tentacle, Thaug's life point is reduced by 1. That's just a guess on my part, but otherwise the rules don't quite make sense.

That's not a bad idea. The limitation could apply to both sides to equal it out.

By the way, how would Kiss of Death have affected your recent playtest? I assume the heroes would have won, since Hadrathus could have sacrificed himself to do that last point of damage, but would it still have come down to the wire?

It’s embarrassing to admit but I didn’t think of that. It may have worked.

I was worried about how the victory points would affect The Streets of Khemi. I am also concerned about how they will affect The Trap.

    Here are some options:

    1. Change The Streets of Khemi to make the hero spellcaster more powerful. Unfortunately, the best spells to use are from the King set, which we aren't using. Alternates include:

    a) Pestilential Swarm (which I think is WAY too powerful if carried by Hadrathus), and
    b) Kiss of Death (which might be climactic because Hadrathus would have to sacrifice himself to use it, but it is also pretty powerful with 3 red re-rollable dice.).

    2. Change the Xuthals Crown to provide +1 spell damage. This would compensate for the OL VP armor bonus. However, if the OL doesn’t get the VP armor bonus, it might make it too easy for the heroes.

    3. Leave it as it.

    Thoughts?

One option is to make it that the plus 1 amour does not apply for spell attacks.

  4. Ok, finally finished The Streets of Khemi. The OL won at the start of turn 11. Shuang Muan had all his lives but Thoth Amon was down to his last life. Niord had the sceptor but was blocked from getting to Shuang by the Dark Demon and the Demon’s 4 armour made it very hard to hurt.

I didn’t have Atali as the heroes had won the previous scenario and both sides had plus 1 armour from accrued Victory Points.

The plus 1 armour along with Set’s Halo made Thoth very hard to injure. If I didn’t throw a 6 with Lightning Storm then it was almost a wasted throw (I spent a lot on rerolls). Bori’s Rage is not helpful as the maximum throw is 4 which means Thoth couldn’t be hurt if he had Set’s Halo cast. Also the sacrifice skill of the Bossonian Guards is very handy for the OL (I assumed that if the OL activated the event card but did not use any gems for Mind Possession the OL still got the reinforcements).

Basically both sorcerers are VERY hard to hurt.

This one is not impossible for the heroes but it is very difficult, it may have been different if the plus 1 armour wasn’t there but that was the way the Victory Points went.

One issue, this scenario uses the Stygian Artifact, but this card is also used to represent the Medallian ( which I didn’t have in this playthrough). That may need to be looked at.

This is good final scenario. A very tricky encounter and one in which the heroes have to be on their best game. I will have to go through the campaign again and replay it after the lessons I have learnt. The campaign is fun and I congratulate everyone on the work done. Hopefully Monolith promote this once it’s finally ready and others can get the same level of enjoyment I did.

I am waiting for Footballz feedback on the Streets of Khemi before I call this thing finished, but we are pretty darn close. I also plan on tacking on a page at the end with the printable cards. I will include enough for each hero to have their own.

I am about half way through the scenario. I have had trouble finding the couple of hours or so required to finish this one. But I will get there. I had planned on playing over the weekend but things got in the way. So far it's been interesting. Haven't been able to do much damage (none actually) to either sorcerer as yet, but we'll see.

@Footballzs - your help is much appreciated - I would like to offer to send you a miniature from my Barbaric Splendor line that you can use in future games (I made a hero card for him that is in the download section) as a thank you if you are interested.

Wow😮. That's incredible generous. I do live in Australia and am concerned postage may be a bit high. I'll accept if you let me pay for postage.

  7. I played Dreams of Atali. I’m not sure about this one. I didn’t really know how to play this. The winning conditions were unusual and I went in to the game without really knowing how it would go. The heroes ended up winning but it was much closer than I would have thought at some stages of the game. At the start of turn 10 I had all the heroes, the Frost Giants and 1 Vanir Warrior in the zone with Atali. Thoth Amon managed to move all the miniatures except one which meant the heroes won.

However, thinking about now, I think I may have erred in my play as I didn’t consider moving Atali with Push Back. If I had realised that then the OL probably would have won.

I spent a few turns biding my time, both as hero and OL, waiting for Atali to show up. I didn’t mind as I like having ‘restful’ turns but I could see that some players wouldn’t appreciate it.

The heroes managed to get both Giants and it didn’t seem that difficult, however the OL did have trouble killing the heroes and allies, he had terrible Lightning Storm attacks.

Also I ran out of red gems, with bonus gems and hearts I was 2 short, I ended up using tokens for the last 2.

I suggest that you put info on using the Vanir Warriors as allies in the set up info. It took me time to work out who those 4 additional characters were in the hero starting zone. I also recommend listing Thoth Amon’s Spells in the set up info, not just in the Special Rules. I prefer finding out what I need from the set up

A couple of grammatical errors, in the third special rule “Smoking Hearts for Ymir’s Board” add the word ‘neither’ before “the command ability” and change the word ‘is’ to ‘it’ in the fifth line of this condition (after ‘places’).

Overall I think this is an interesting scenario, but one I would have to play a few times to really understand the tactics needed.

After 4 scenarios, Heroes 2 - OL 3 (carry forward item Spellbook), the heroes also carried forwards one unused bonus gem.

Thanks for the feedback - and the prooofreading, I will make the changes if I can, but I think the spell names are set in the scenario editor. I think I gave Shentu 2 Khitan swords so the heroes would have some more firepower, I should write in something about using something else to stand in for the second card. I should also write in some suggestion for noting the extra yellow die you mentioned.

    Glad you enjoyed the scenario!

The ‘Sword’ has the same stats as the ‘Khitan Sword’ so you could use that.

With the extra yellow die I ended up putting a yellow die on his melee attack space to remind me.

  9. Ok, I just played scenario three The Fate of Yag-Kosha. Wow what a ride! The heroes won, but only just. Ikhmet dropped the idol into the fire at the end of turn 8. The heroes had basically nothing left and it was an incredibly close thing. Having said that the OL had it tough as well.

The heroes were unlucky in that the idol was only found in the last chest. It may have been very different if found earlier. The idol was in area 3 and the OL spent most of the time blocking the way with the Scorpion Broodmother. The heroes spent a lot of gems attacking it and the OL defending it. It was a game of attrition toward the end.

The events were clever and could change things drastically depending how they are used.

I killed the giant scorpions early so the antidotes were useless when I found them. The heroes had to get them out of the way because the OL was using them to hinder. The rock slides and bat swarm event made it tough moving around, and hindering by the OL made it even harder.

A well thought out scenario that had a bit of everything; attacking, defending, hindering, searching and strategy. The only thing missing was stealth.

I had one problem, I kept forgetting that Yag had an extra yellow die!

One question: the scenario says that Shentu has 2 Khitan swords, I only had one card, is that an error?

Also “Carried by the wind” should be “Borne by the Wind”.

So after 3 scenarios, heroes 1 and OL 3.

Not blaming them for postage issues.  I have never been able to get one sent to me.  I followed all the instructions and never have been emailed a link to the pledge manager for any of the compendiums.  I think this is a dumb way to distribute these.  I also didn't like how they handled the Mythic Battles reprint.  Also not crazy about them using kickstarter as a store for claustrophobia.  I will do the only thing I can and vote with my wallet, or "not vote" so to speak.

    Ok, that’s fair enough.

Now they are handing them out at GenCon and they are not in the pledge manager as far as I can tell.  I'm really sick of Monolith.  Not backing their next game and actually a bit sorry I backed Batman.  I haven't been happy with how they handle most things.

I’ve said this before but I think it needs repeating. This is not a Monolith product but a fan made compendium Monolith agreed to put together and print for free. Blaming Monolith for postage issues is stretching it a bit.

Thank you for your continued feedback and playtesting. It is appreciated. That is a useful piece of insight concerning the optional sceanrio. There is potential incentive for the Heroes to take the risk. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Thanks for your kind words. Also my playtesting is on hold as I am currently holidaying in Vietnam.

    1. Since victory points are capped at 4, the heroes probably won't agree unless they lose one of the first two scenarios and they want to try to make up for one. At least it makes for a meaningful decision. Of course, completionists will play the scenario regardless.

As someone who has lost the 1st 2 scenarios as the heroes, the opportunity to gain 1 point would be tempting.

  14. @Neil Amswych could I suggest a change of wording for the event: "The Dark Demon Arrives". The way it reads at the moment it could be taken to mean that it only costs 1 gem to activate at any time. To be clear that it can only be activated when it is in the far left space maybe use something like this:

"The OL cannot activated the event tile until it has flowed (floated?) down to the first space (1 gem). When this tile...."

I think this makes it a bit clearer.

  15. Just finished Fight or Flight a win for the OL. I thought the heroes were looking good. One more turn and I think they would have made it off with the merchant, however the Dark Demon attacked the merchant and scored 8, 3 orange defence dice only managed 3 (that was all I had left in gems), mercifully the merchant didn’t feel a thing.

I almost made an error, I was about to activate the Dark Demon for a cost of 3 gems until I reread the Special Rules and realised I had to wait until it was at 1 gem.

I picked up the medallion but didn’t need it in the end but if I had managed to escape I would gotten 2 Victory points, it was close. I missed out on Xuthal’s Crown as well.

Yogah, Ikhmet and Hadrathus copped 1 wound each, Shentu had 1 gem left and I ended up using Gift of Life to save him, but it didn’t make a difference as he wasn’t used again.

The heroes could have played it slightly differently and could have won so I am not concerned by balance. The game ended on round 8.

I made slight changes to the set up from your scenario. As mentioned the green tile is shown incorrectly so I used the grey tile, and, because there were so many grey minions, I used the purple tile for the Javelin Throwers.

    A fun scenario.

After the second scenario the heroes have no Victory points, the OL has 3, carry forward item: the Spellbook.

    Hello,
In the “Hunting the Tigress” Scenario, it says “Chests... The asset deck contains 3 Life Potions, 1 Explosive Orb, 1 Crossbow.”  What is an asset deck?  What is in each chest?  Do I put one item from the asset deck into each chest?

What’s the difference between red and blue gems?  What are the red gems used for?

    Thanks,
    Paolo Barone
    PBarone714@gmail.com

The asset deck is a pile of equipment cards shuffled and placed in a pile. Each time you open a chest you pick the top card from the deck and that is what you have found in the chest.

The blue gems are for heroes and the red are for the Overlord, except for the stance notification (ie active or cautious) where one red gem is placed on the hero cards to show which stance they have chosen.

Do you have version 1 or 2 of the rulebooks?
