  1. I was replying to one of the announcements on Kickstarter and I realized that a bunch of the things I was looking for are actually being covered. So I thought it only right to go over it. The minis I most want to see. This list, upon reflection, got heavily cleared out. Between the results of the current campaign and what would be included in a Red Nails box set (which they recently teased) it looks like most of what I was asked for was taken care of. Still, did my best to come up with new mini ideas. 1. Bran Mak Morn 2. Degenerate Serpent Men (Bran Mak Morn series) 3. Child of Set (Serpent in the Bowl). I know we have a lot of snakes already. However, I would expect this one to have a classical-style human head and very different line up of powers. 4. Tzun Thune and his magical mirrors (King Kull series) 5. Giant, evil crabs (People of the Black Coast) 6. Sexy, female assassin (like was on the Stygia expansion cover but not actually there). 7. Some character to represent fat, decadent noblemen or merchants. Yeah, I am really reaching with some of these, but to be fair the miniature line up they got with the last campaign really knocked it out of the park. Maps, hmmmm. The Kickstarter did have some really awesome maps I can't wait to get into. However, they covered less of what I was looking for. The pure wilderness map will supposedly come out with Red Nails. Grain of salt, fingers crossed. 1. Gladiator arena. It would be dominated by a giant arena in the middle. Get some of those cool pillars in there. Then surrounded by seating for the masses, and an emperors viewing box. Finally adjacent rooms for letting gladiators and beasts in. Dramatic, powerful and intense. If you're looking for what culture would most likely have this in the Hyborian age, I would suggest Turan or Hyperborea. Bonus if it can somehow double as a racing track! 2. Palace throne room. If you're going to dethrone someone, they need a throne first! I want a magnificent chamber to kill a king and place his bloody crown on my head. We have a fortress or two, but not a really civilized, refined even genteel place in which to wreck havoc. Imagine the centerpiece being a many columned throne room. Then add side chambers for feasting hall, guard room, treasury, armory even a seraglio. Etc. 3. Thieves themed boards- I think what would really sell this to me is a double map. One level shows the rooftops. The other shows the rooms beneath! That would feel roguish to me. Any scenario that has you dashing back and forth between roof levels and rooms is enticing! Especially if one section would have a rich person's house and the rest are poor. 4. Don't get me wrong, more ruins, battlefields, caves and caverns are also possibilities. Those top three are my personal pics though. Given what we got in the last campaign, and anticipating a future Red Nails campaign, what box sets would I lobby for? Zamora/Thieves themed box set- First, two maps. I would want them to have a roof top and an interior. Think like what they have for ship decks. One map will be of the Maul (the poorer part of town) and the other would be rich mansions or temples. That kind of verticality would create for exciting combat. Another element to consider is integrating some kind of stealth game play. Popping in and out of buildings and going behind obstacles. Perhaps, every time you start your turn within line of sight of a guard the Overlord gains a benefit? Not sure. Some kind of mechanism for heists would be cool too. A competitive mode were the heroes see who can escape with the best swag might be cool. In terms of minis you could work in 3, 6 and 7 easily. For the minions, I would want to see thieves. The base box set already has plenty of standard guards. Turan- If I may quote the poll from way back when "Turan: an expansion about Turan would be inspired by Persian Empire, with Zuagir tribes attacking caravan of merchants, and with adventurers looking for long-lost cities hidden in the desert." e They are clearly focusing on the land bound elements of Turan, which I approve of. We've got a lot of pirate stuff already. I will admit that not a lot of my minis would not apply naturally to this one. 6 and 7 I suppose. We would need Turanian styled troops in this one. There are some (mostly evil) NPCs which can make their appearance in this game. If you are looking for an unique mechanic for this one, I would say some kind of mounted combat/riding mechanic. Especially if we get the arena map. Gladiator fights AND chariot racing? Yes please! The maps I would most like to see would be the throne room and the arena. However, to be fair we would want at least one desert. Heck, a desert map to show a caravan trail and/or one with desert ruins would be awesome.
  2. Pretty Metal. It's going to be a long time before I can actually play test this but awesome regardless. I would say, if you have any Batman Monolith stuff it would be a lot easier and you could use some modern maps.
  3. Sheesh. What would anger Crom so much he'd actually bother to show up in person?!?!
  4. This is a continuation of a previous post of mine. There weren't any replies on that one, but I'll keep going with it. It's enjoyable for me right now. Hope this is helpful to someone. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by IDW. Like Batman this is one that takes place in a modern, science fiction setting. So I find myself gravitating towards characters with archaic weaponry or are monstrous enough to stand in for Conan creatures. I will say that the more cartoonish look is distracting and may not be suitable. Flying Mousers- Can stand in for a swarm of flying somethings. Crows, bats, etc. Leatherhead- A particularly beefy serpent man variant or perhaps a Deep One. Oruku Saki Hamato Sons Hamato Yoshi Iron Demon Krang Kitsune Rat King Wyrm Foot Ninja Mousers Slash- Big monster type Foot Elite Karai Foot Bruiser The Dojo map tiles actually do work. I would suggest an overlay of some kind to change the squares into zones. Most of the other maps just feel too modern to me. Rivals- Masters of the Deep This is a more obscure one from Kickstarter. The art style isn't quite right, and neither is the scale. HOWEVER, it does have some more unique aquatic style monsters. The boss units for each faction actually work fine as Deep Ones. Vengeance Hmmm. Another modern one. However, the art style meshes a little better than something like TMNT. Let's see what we've got. Meatboy Murphy Assassin Guard Dog Bosses and Thugs from the Rosari Expansion Tengu-Hai Bosses and Thugs Shadowman Katja One thing of particular note is the boards are to the right scale and are divided into zones! With an emphasis on tactical combat no less! Unfortunately, once again most feel simply too modern to fit. Perhaps some of the interiors can be reimagined as a palace room or casinos into brothels. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Anyway I can be doing this better?
  5. I've heard this promised and talked about a lot. Right now it's "I'll believe it when it's released" mode.
  6. Wow, these are a lot of great ideas. I will watch the Kickstarter carefully. When they ask for mini maps submission ideas, I'll compile these. However, don't just wait for me to do it. The more people demanding it, the better the odds after all!
  7. Yeah, that last Kickstarter went much better. There were some issues with how they ran this campaign, as we have discussed, and a lot of stuff I'd still like to see. Still, congratulations to them!
  8. Hello everyone, So recent events got me thinking about Conan and minis. This is both for the board game and the RPG by Modiphius. Now I consider myself fortunate to have been aware of the Kickstarters and been able to afford them. I don't take that for granted. However, for my upcoming games I felt like I needed EVEN MORE minis. Or to be honest, I had a lot of minis I wasn't using and this seemed like a good opportunity. So for fun, and to hopefully help others I will post my findings on what I felt were good minis and maps. Some things I look for are A) Equal scale, B) fits the Howardian theme and C) avoid redundancies. For example, skeleton warriors are a stock character in many of these games. We've already got a bunch in the base Conan set. So in my first page, I go for some obvious low hanging fruit. The Batman game released by Monolith. Now the maps are the correct scale, and do have zones. However, they are way too modern. Takes you out of the mood. There were certain characters I felt with a little imagination could be used as Conan minis. I did find myself focusing on characters wielding ancient weapons of one type or another. Also, I did leave out some like hounds, Bud and Lou etc because we've got stuff like that in the Conan set if you got wolves. Scarecrow could also be in there, but there are plenty of freaky wizards in the Conan stuff. Season 1 Orphan Huntress Black Canary Green Arrow Katana Azrael Killer Croc (both versions)- Stand in for various monsters Man Bat- Flying killer bat monster? Yup Ras A Ghul Carnivorous Plants Wayne Manor T-rex- Do I need to say more? Bats- Need a flock or swarm? Season 2 Poison ivy- Or more importantly her killer plants. Those are hard to come by. Suicide Squad Black Manta Boomerang King Shark El Diablo All the Villains from League of Assassins Etrigan What do you think? Anything I missed?
  9. Hmmmm. So in the most recent post they have offered to let the fans choose between another monster mini and some more mini maps. Given the monster and the number of minis I already have, I definitely like the mini maps a lot more. These would be my picks for mini maps ideas. 1. Throne. An elevated, giant throne. This immediately brings two scenarios to mind. First, is you are the king and have to survive an attack by usurpers. Second, you are the usurper! You must dethrone the king. 2. An altar or shrine. Like the throne, elevated separate space. Having to rescue a victim from an impending sacrifice is a classic fantasy scenario. We need this! Oh, and for the other scenario, players must use it to seal away an evil monster they cannot kill conventionally. 3. Secret passage. This one is different from the previous two. No scenarios occur to me, but have an alternate route built into the game board offers lots of tactical possibilities. Many ways to skin this particular cat, but I would suggest a corridor like room, and then have two counters you can place on the game board to indicate entrance/exit. Designs could include castle wall, cavern or ghostly magical walkway Thoughts?
  10. Thanks for the feedback! I would heartily agree that the more traditional campaign model would be great. If I were to launch any sort of counter argument, it's that I could say that they were scraping the bottom of the barrel when they finished the first campaign. AKA we're running out of good ideas. They did start seeming a little desperate at the end of that last one. However, I don't believe it. Not only does this latest Kickstarter show there's plenty of ideas left, I have been posting a bunch of my own. People have been crying out for Red Nails. The "here's some stuff take it or leave it" does not appeal to me. To be fair to Monolith, I do like some of the stretch goals. Shadow Kingdom? King Kull? NOW we're talking! I would like to see Tzun Thune, mirrors props, ghosts and a new board, but they've got all the essentials! In general I do agree with your thoughts on strategy and the like.
  11. I am liking what I see here. As of this writing, the current campaign is going well. Especially given the last campaign, I do encourage them to be careful. Play it safe. Don't over extend yourselves. I am totally cool with not going crazy over stretch goals. Having said that, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't drooling over some of these stretch goals. Serpent men? Yesssssssss! King Kull? AT LAST! More more. What's next? Given that they have gone down the King Kull rabbit hole, I am thinking Thulsa Doom, Tzun Thun and Brule. Some kind of ghost mini to represent the serpents controlling the spirits of the dead would be nice. If they are adding maps, a throne room/palace and gladiator arenas would be very thematic. I actually discussed this under a previous post. Etc. Gladiator arena. It would be dominated by a giant arena in the middle. Get some of those cool pillars in there. Then surrounded by seating for the masses, and an emperors viewing box. Finally adjacent rooms for letting gladiators and beasts in. Dramatic, powerful and intense. If you're looking for what culture would most likely have this in the Hyboria age, I would suggest Turan or Hyperborea. Bonus if it can somehow double as a racing track! I do kind of see why we don't have anything for Red Nails. They are probably saving up for a Kickstarter all it's own. Lots of characters, freaky monsters, unique maps and so on. How does everyone else feel about this Kickstarter? I didn't even mention the solo/cooperative mode.
  12. I can practically hear those minis yelling Run away! Run away! I've got an affinity for that vintage stuff too!
  13. That sounds like a super awesome game!
  14. First, let me apologize if I am not doing this right. Not putting this post in the right place or something like that. I am not familiar with forums in general and I'm new to this one in particular. So the recent Kickstarter (RIP) did get me thinking about the expansions to Conan I'd like to see. I will admit I'm a traditionalist in most senses, so I do tend to go with the "more of what I love." Still, I prefer to avoid redundancy. So a list of the minis I most want to see are... 1. Serpent Men (Kull stories mostly) 2. Degenerate serpent men (Bran Mak Morn stories) 3. Child of Set (from God in the Bowl) 4. Crawler (from Red Nails) 5. More apes. Mostly I just need more ape men for my game. 6. Living Idol- giant animated statue. Bonus, it can be a prop or an enemy! 7. Why not do King Kull as well? Brule! And Thulsa Doom! Skull head! Now those aren't the only things I'd like to see but those are my priorities. And really, why did we get a python offered in that last Kickstarter? Given that a giant snake is in the base box set already it really didn't feel like an incentive. Having said that, the minis that DID interest me were the deep ones, pirate archers, ballista, Kithan acolytes, Xaltotun, Gorm, spider, N'Yoga, Yog and Mitra. Especially as how the latter could make for a good living idol. In terms of maps here are my four big thoughts. 1. 2. Jungle. I see people suggesting they want a Pictish village, frontier town or fort. Last I checked we already have those. Rather what I would like to see is a thickly jungled/forested area. No civilized structures. Done right it could apply to everything from the Pictish wildnerness, to the jungles of Khitai or the Black Kingdoms. Have varied terrain like rocky outcroppings, rivers, etc. 3. Etc. 4. So my picks for expansion boxes and what should be in them are... Red Nails- Surprise, surprise. Am I right? This won on the poll way back and for good reason. There's some good characters to turn into minis here, and I'll get my much desired Crawler. Living idol is an easy add in here. I see the maps being different sections of the city. To make it different from other maps, it should be more claustrophobic. Lots of narrow corridors, choke points, dead ends etc. Finding your way around should be a challenge. Also add in mechanics for things like secret doors, moving walls, trap doors and traps. You need to fight the setting as much as the foes. King Kull- Yeah, not even an option in the poll but in my mind a cool idea. Could easily do the throne room and gladiator arena in this context. All the minis I mentioned under 7. It would be a fresh new resource to pull upon. And let's not forget the serpent men! Heck, enslaved vengeful ghosts could be a mini. Still, I am guessing that there might be some rights issues here. What do you think?
