    Nemesis: this ain’t E.T.!

Making some headway on getting Nemesis painted up. I’m mulling over paint schemes for the other alien types. The Queen and the Breeders will have a bit more color I think. 🤔 Work in progress shots here, still need to attend to the bases.
  2. Another great mini from this game. The right choice was made to keep the depiction more classic in nature with such an important member of the Pantheon. He looks just right.
  3. It’s all about the owl on this one. At least for me... 🙂 Usual disclaimers apply; I’m painting for the table, not a display case, and I’m always trying to follow the game art as best I can.
  4. Kinda rough paint job in some areas. I over shaded her in areas and then picked the worst brush I could have to do some of the dry brushing. I might do some more work to rescue her, but I’m trying to keep a good pace getting MB finished and table ready.

    Line of Sight Tool

So, I’m kind of surprised that I haven’t seen an official post here about the new LOS tool for Conan. Maybe I just missed it? Perhaps Monolith is waiting to create an English language version of the tool? Or perhaps waiting until they have the tool expanded to include Batman and MB? At any rate, I’ll include the link that was shared over on KickStarter. It takes you to the French version of The Overlord, and even though the Game Boards are listed in French, it’s still very easy for non-French speakers to use... https://the-overlord.com/index.php?/conan/lignes-de-vues/ligne-de-vue-village/

    Compendium Late pledge FLUENT

Ah, I see. That is a bummer for all the fans outside of the US and Europe. The end date was clear from the outset, but I agree that as we approached April 19th Monolith should have openly communicated that they did not find a better shipping option for other territories, if only to help remind people that they’d need to at least order their PDF version before the deadline. Hopefully more new issues are produced in the future and then Monolith can again offer all the issues to backers/fans. Communication is key, and I concur that Monolith could always improve on that front.

    Missing pics?

@SentMa, @Matt John S... Seems like pictures from many older posts are missing. Is there something going on with the website?

    Hyperborean Primitive

I guess I’ll share this old WIP picture of my Primitive. I think I worked him a little more after this, and I’m not overly thrilled with this paint job. If I recall, I was in the home stretch for the base game and KS exclusive stuff and I was moving really fast.

    Pandemonium! (Show your demons)

I almost always prime a solid white layer unless the final mini demands a black primer (like Cerberus or the aliens in Intruder), and then when the minis needs a white color it’s already there. For example, with the skeletons and mummies from Conan, the bones and bandages were already base-coated and just needed some ink wash for me to be happy. I found the mummies to be super easy to paint for this game. Flesh, swords, skirt, shade it all, done.

    Missing pics?

@Matt John S, It seems like a random smattering of older pics are missing. At least when I look at the topic on a mobile device. Look at the thread for ‘Show Your Conan’. Some are there, many simply show a file name and no pics...?

    Pandemonium! (Show your demons)

By the musk of Crom’s short and curlys, he looks awesome @Not Quite Dead! I’m not terribly thrilled with my painted version of the Dark Demon, and he’s not really one of my favorite minis in the game (kind of cartoony for my tastes), but you’ve made him look damn fierce and interesting. I think you nailed the trick with painting black minis, kind of a reverse of most minis, the shading is already done after the basecoat and one just needs to attend to the highlights. Great work!
  12. Incredibly satisfying to have such a large mini that is so damn easy to paint. It took me about an hour to have this guy basically done. I fiddled about for a little longer to try and tweak him, but there wasn’t much else to do. Black primer, some dark blue dry brushing and then just a few details. Obviously an expert level painter can go much further with such an nice model, but I’m trying to wrap up my MB stuff before the 1.5 update arrives. Hmm... maybe Atlas or the Hoplites next?
  13. @Not Quite Dead, yeah black is kinda tricky. I’m no expert, but I’ve had some decent results by relying on highlighting/dry brushing. Either prime or basecoat the minis in black, and then dry brush all the raised sections with a lighter color. Something in the blue range seems to work and compliment the black. For Cerberus I mixed Vallejo Azure (kind of a muted, greyish blue) with a tiny touch of black, and then simply dry brushed his face and body. It worked great on the Crows in the Nordheim expansion too. I wouldn’t look at my Dark Demon as a success (he turned out pretty sloppy), but that’s pretty much what I did with him too. Any experts out there want to weigh in?

    Compendium Late pledge FLUENT

Monolith was very straightforward about the offer. The pledge manager was only going to be open for a short time, and they responded to the demand for a PDF version by making that an option. People complained about the cheap shipping on the first Compendiums, so they offered better shipping with tracking this time, so people complained about the price, and thusly they absolutely DID offer a cheap PDF option. Now people are finding new things to be upset over? It really seems that Monolith can only do wrong by some as they try to offer after-campaign support for their games. What exactly is the complaint here?
  15. I haven’t quite finished with him, he needs some touch up and matte varnish, but here’s my Winged Ape mini. Once I finish the villagers that also came with Corinthia, I will have finished every mini in the entire Conan lineup. Whew! That was a helluva lot of painting... 🤪
  16. He looks awesome @garbetsp!
  17. Another fantastic mini from MB! They’ve added a lot of awesome flair to so many of these mythological characters which really makes them stand out as unique, despite the fact that these creatures have been depicted a million times already in historical and pop culture. As usual, painting for the game table, and generally following the game art for color schemes (difficult to do as the game art has so many lighting effects)...
  18. Went a little more vibrant than the game art. Given that I have usually kinda sucked at painting the ladies in my mini-based games, I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. Another great sculpt from this game. I don’t think there is a single weak mini in the box. So fantastic!
  19. I wanted him to look kinda dirty and ragged, like his game art suggests, but maybe I went a little too far down that road... but whatever. One of the freedoms that comes with painting a TON of minis is that it gets easier to just accept a paint job that you aren’t thrilled with and move on to the next - at least that’s how it is for me. 🙂 He looks good enough on the game table at any rate, so I’m moving on to something else! Maybe Medusa...

What the Hell, Show Your Hades!

That’s a very good point @Not Quite Dead, he would look better with a different skin tone. Again, as I always do, I was trying to follow the game art and in this case Hades actually seemed to have a fairly normal skin tone. I do have quite a few regrets and disappointments with how he turned out. I’d do him a bit different if I was to paint him again. Not so much with the color choices, but my overall technique. He hit my table after a fairly long break from painting. He was also probably the largest mini I’ve ever painted and so I learned that techniques which work fine on a typical mini needs to be altered with the larger scale. It’s one of the reasons I picked him as the first, big, God ‘mini’ I tackled. His game art shows him as dirty and rough. I’ve always found monsters, zombies, and bloody/dirty warriors to be so much easier to paint because they are much more forgiving. However, with so many large and ‘clean’ looking minis in Mythic Battles, I definitely need to step up my game and master some new skills. I’m currently painting the Amazons, and although they are standard scale, they have been a good subject for me as I practice developing a lighter touch and some new methods. Pics of them soon! And c’mon out there! Let’s see some of your MB minis! I still have hope that we can make this English version of The Overlord a more energetic and bustling community. I’m not planning to go back on Facebook anytime soon, my life and mental health has been WAY better these past 4 years without it, so this forum and BGG have been a great place to connect with likeminded peeps without all the extraneous clutter, poisonous attitude, and aggravation of most social media platforms. Let’s keep it alive and help it thrive by participating!! (mic drop)...

Forgot to spin him around for a shield view...

    Show your Ageera!

Nice work! I put all my Witch-Hunters in one category here, ‘Puff, puff, pass... Share Your Kush’... Maybe I’m trying to hard to make all the titles into puns. Next time Conan comes out of the box for game night I’ll try to snap some individual shots.
  23. Knocked these out pretty quickly, but I still need to hit them with some varnish. I might go the extra mile and add some foliage, but with so much to paint for MB, I kinda doubt I’ll get around to it anytime soon... I really love adding scenery to any game board, so these will likely get a lot of use outside of MB too.
  24. I think I’ll try to get some more MB painted minis shown on this forum. I have to be honest, the Gallery mode isn’t as satisfying to me as the way we all have been showing our Conan minis in individual posts. With the Gallery, it isn’t as obvious when there are new postings, and IMO it isn’t as easy to look at the actual images. So, I’ll see how it goes creating a series of “Show Yours” posts and hope that others get in the game. I’m not a mini painting artist like some others on the forum, so I’m mostly excited to see the work of others! My usual caveats apply; I try to follow the game art for my color choices, and I’m painting fairly quickly for the game table, not a display case. 🙂 All that said, here is the first monster I’ve tackled as I get going on MB, the mighty Minotaur!

    What Primer Do You Use

Yup. Amazon, or almost any hardware store should have them. Inexpensive, and effective. Better safe than sorry I think.
