Florentin Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Have you already seen this movie : The Whole Wide World In Texas in the 1930s, young schoolteacher Novalyne Price meets a handsome, eccentric, interesting young man named Robert Howard. He's a successful writer - of the pulp stories of 'Conan the Barbarian'; she's an aspiring one. A friendship develops into a sort of courtship. Based on a memoir by Novalyne Price.
Mekhlis Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Thanks for the tip - is it any good? Are there any swordfights?
Florentin Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 Do not know! I haven't seen yet!
Pallantides Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 It's really a good movie about the later years of Robert E. Howard, based on the bio-autographies "One Who Walked Alone" and "Day of the Stranger: Further Memories of Robert E. Howard" by Novalyne Price Ellis. The movie seems to be really close from what we know today about REH's life and Vincent D'Onofrio excellent in this role. However, it's necessary to explain that Novalyne was married and aged when she wrote her memories and, perhaps, we don't know everything about her relation with REH. 2
Arthadan Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I've seen it, it's good. I was expecting more on Conan creation, but it's interesting as it is. 1
Epaka Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 It is a decent film, with a couple inspired scenes and good acting all around. However, it has plenty of inaccuracies and cannot be considered as a reliable portrait of REH. 1

The movie is well adapted from the book "One Who Walked Alone", but as said before based on memories of an aged and married woman. This could change if the personal diary of Novalyne (still in the hands of his son), is released one day or another... 2
