  1. Hi everyone. As you may know, we have been working away on a Conan campaign. We are asking for your specific feedback on all 6 of these scenarios and we'd like you to post that feedback here. I'll be editing this post to add content as we go, but as of now we have 4 scenarios looking for tests.

Hail! So we have been chipping away at the Community Campaingn and we are just about done our drafts for all the scenarios. I’m posting the first 3 for any testers who would like to give feedback. Your input is greatly appreciated. Please post your comments in this thread. Know that this will have some progression and a few light campaign rules. We will eventually compile all this info in a neat little PDF packet for downloading, but for now we just want feedback on the individual scenarios. Note that you only require elements from retail items (Core game, Stygia, Nordheim, Khitai, Crossbowmen, Yag, and maybe The Witchunters)

@Matt John S When it is time to advertise play-testing to the public, should we create a brand new post with the Campaign Rules and List of Campaign links as the main post? Then play-testers could post feedback in that thread and it would not get intermingled with our discussions. I think it would help simplify things for the play-testers.

Ken, yes, that's probably a good idea. I'll start one and add to the link I post on Facebook. I'm going to do that right now. SORRY FOR THE DELAY, GUYS! Batman has got me runnin!

  3. @Ken @Neil Amswych @Primeval, @drmauric

Can you guys post a link to your scenarios from the editor page? I want to put the links all in one post, not the pdfs, because when people access it I want it to be the latest version. Once I have those I'll do my post. I almost have mine written up too. I'll make a pinned post in Conan Gaming Group and bump it every once in a while. Also, Ken, what is your name in Conan Gaming Group? Are you in there?

Looks like things are moving along! I am going to run The Trap through a few more tests tonight. Once I am confident it is halfway decent, I will switch gears and revisit The Streets of Khemi, which still needs to be updated with the campaign specific items (atali's possible presence, victory gems, Haddy's spellbook, etc.).

What is our time frame looking like at this point?

Ken, whenever you're done. You're done. there is no rush, but let's keep our steady pace. I'm about to post in Conan Gaming Group that we're looking for testers.

Here is scenario number 2 for public testing: Fight or Flight.

    https://www.conan-scenarios.com/scenarioPage.php?MissionId=1090

It's a hard scenario if the heroes go for the Medallion (and especially if the OL uses a Crossbowman to activate the pirates). I actually haven't run it without them going for the Medallion but I think it would definitely be easier if they just hunt for the merchant and flee.

Some of the colours are slightly off - my apologies. The red Crossbowmen on the board are blue/purple on the river. I'll change that once the editor is totally fixed.

To help me with testing this scenario, please let me know

    a) If the heroes went for the medallion

    b) Who won and how? (Did the Overlord kill the merchant, did the heroes escape? etc)
    c) What was the health of the heroes at the end of the scenario.

    d) Should Hadrathus have an attacking spell as well, such as Bori's Rage? I have a feeling that would make it too easy for the heroes but in this scenario it's not amazing fun being Hadrathus just buffing everyone.

    Thanks

@Matt John S can we post our adventures on the FB page to get other people to playtest them?

    Fight or Flight 5.0.pdf

Totally, I can make a post about it and link these comments. It might get more traffic if I post it. I can include links to all of these in the post. I'll just add mine later once it's done. Cool?

So, I believe I'm done my scenario. We tested it 3 times and in each case it came down to one or two moves/rolls to decide victory. But, of course, I'd like outside eyes on it. I'll type it all up when the editor is back online. I believe it is Kevin's scenario that preceeds mine? I'd like to write in some end game conditions that give Thoth an item that increases his movement skill by one (if the overlord wins). It'd be a little bonus he could use going forward and a piece of progression ( I know Thoth isn't in yours but he's in mine and Ken's two, I believe). I'd also like to give the Heroes a little something too. For mine throwing daggers or something might be nice (are you using those yet, Ken?).

  8. @Neil AmswychI think them having to take out the Dark Demon is an important part of their strategy; they leave him alive at their peril. I'd be trying to take him out ASAP. Players should be looking for those kinds of issues when they read the scenario objective. Besides, it's more Conan like to fighter the bastard, no? I actually removed the Dark Demon from mine because the blocker aspect dictated too much of the flow of the gameplay. But it sounds like it might work well with yours.

@Neil Amswych FYI Matt posted this back on Jan 20. It is a picture of the retail available spells. Inversion is a stretch goal. Sorry. Maybe Teleportation could work instead?

And as far as the second dot:  it is just indicating Line of Sight from different directions. Around the corners of that center building. Making that space easier for ranged attacks to hit. There is a similar area on the Nordheim hill map.

As far as killing the Dark Demon, I think it's ok, narratively speaking the Heroes simply "drive it off". Similar to a Hero dying in a previous scenario. It turns into a "narrow escape" or they were "knocked unconscious" for the purposes of the campaign. Players will have to use their imagination. :) Besides I thonk at some point some of the other guys are "evolving" it to the Outer Dark Demon.

EDIT: There is a place under "Home Made Unofficial Scenarios" where you can make requests for the Scenario Editor, under Tools. You can ask for the Crossbowmen tile to be added there.

@Neil Amswych, everything @drmauric said is correct. No Inversion possible, I'm afraid. And yes, kill the demon. It'll just come back. I'm making the switch to the Outer Dark Demon on mine for scenario 4. @Ken, not sure if that affects what you're doing but it shouldn't. Speaking of Ken, I'm digging all your ideas. Everything is sounding great, fellas. We'll just have to do minor tweaks to the flavor text to make sure the story flows seamlessly. Assuming we even need to make changes at all.

My scenario is just about done. The last two games we played were incredibly close, one side won due to one final move and draining their gems. Can't beat that, right? This one will have good replay value as there are a few different approaches to winning, especially for the Overlord. I'll test again this week, finish writing it out and then pop it up for tests.

For now, I'll just give you any pertinent details:

Thoth is an immortal tile. You wound him, he comes back. He's a powerhouse and it very much feels like he's as potent as a hero. He sprays lighting all over everything.

    Outer Dark Demon debuts.

    I use Dan's spellbook.

I didn't use any carryover elements other than the spell book, but could implement any you guys think I need.

I think it's going to be a Dream sequence...

    That's about it.

  10. The book is in editing currently. But I can't say when it will be out. It is done as far as the writing goes but requires time for editing and layout.

Converting existing scenarios could be done, but it would take some effort. You're best off stealing ideas for use in your own coop scenarios. They're actually pretty easy to write compared to the competitive scenarios.

  11. Greetings all, I'll get back to you guys with more specifics later, but for now I'll just say that we could ask people to use other tokens for bonus gems. Perhaps one of the card board bits from the box as Dan suggested.

As for distribution. We'll just post it up on the Overlord when finished, but I'll promote it through the official channels on Facebook and KS updates if possible, during Batman. I'd love to get in one of the compendiums if possible but as of now there are set plans for those. I'll see if I can alter them.

My scenario has been played twice and is close to where it needs to be but I have to make a few changes and test some more. And more. And more.

    Bonus Gem Idea
    Winner gets 2
    Loser gets 1

Overlord uses Blue Gems and places them in his Reserve Zone at the start of the game.
Heroes use Red Gems and place them on the table near the Hero area. These are a commom pool that any Hero can draw from at any time. These gems do not count when determining the Heroes' Life Points.

All bonus gems are one time use and used gems are discarded during the End Phase.

If there are any unused Bonus Gems at the end of a scenario each side may carry 1 over to the next scenario.

An idea like this will ensure that each writer only has to contend limited number of Bonus Gems, in this example 3 max, because only 1 will carry over but it still gives the side that is winning a little bit of an edge, so it shouldn't knock things out of wack too bad or require extra tangential play testing.

I realize it's only a net gain of 1 for the Winner but it presents the option of saving 1 for carry over. So there's a tiny bit of strategic thinking I guess. Maybe 3 for the winner is better...

We probably will see the usefullness (or uselessness) of something like this more clearly once we can play through the whole Campaign.

    Thoughts?

This is so close to how it works in the campaign in the Modiphius book I wrote that it's kind of scary. So yes, I think it works ;) in mine the loser didn't get squat, though. As far as I remember...

If it works for everyone, I still like the idea of the final battle being determined by the Yogah of Yag idol, even if it isn't the penultimate scenario.

I envision if Thoth wins that scenario, he gets the idol and controls Yogah, who will lead his army north for conquest. Knowing that Conan is the only power that can stop his evil army, Thoth devises a trap to lure him with Atali, which he will spring on Conan at the Ruined Fortress. But first, Thoth Amon must capture Atali. This leads to the Nordheim scenario. If Thoth wins, I will include an optional bonus in the Ruined Fortress scenario that includes Atali. If the heroes win, the Overlord doesn't get the bonus.

However, if the heroes win the Yogah of Yag scenario, then the Overlord has no one powerful enough to lead his evil army in conquest of the north. With his hopes of northern conquest dashed, he comes up with a new plan to summon the physical incarnation of set by making an alliance with an eastern sorcerer who has the other half of a shattered amulet. However, Thoth Amon knows Conan has foiled him in the past, and he is determine to be prepared this time. So before he invites the eastern sorcerer to the Streets of Khemi, he enters a  dream world and tries to capture Atali. This leads to the Nordheim scenario. If Thoth wins, I will include an optional bonus in the Streets of Khemi scenario that includes Atali. If the heroes win, the Overlord doesn't get the bonus.

    In summary:

    1. Victory Points only determine the level up.

    2. Yogah Idol scenario determines the final battle.

    3. Nordheim scenario determines whether Thoth gets an Atali buff in the final scenarios.

    Thoughts?

Yup. That works for me. And are still going to add in the potential bonus gems? Those can be easily implemented at the end of each scenario in a brief description. Doesn't matter to me, but I think the little progression elements are fun. So what is the plan for the Dark Demon? Are we going anything special with him? He's just kind of present in mine
