Bawon Samdi
I didn't participate to Mythic Battle KS and didn't buy the crossover box featuring the mighty winged ape. For reference, this is this one, sculpted by Dustin Nguyen: I've started with a Kong mini from the Monsterpocalypse game and wings from one of my daughter's doll: First I had to pin down the wings before glueing them. I've then sculpted some fur to blend the wings into the ape's back. I also used a Micro Art base representing jungle covered ruins, just like the setting of its battle against Conan at the end of the Queen of the Black Coast short story. Afetr white priming you can see he looks a bit taller than the official mini but, nonetheless, i'm happy with the result. The sculpt is really great and made the painting really easy. To make it fully playable, I also had to print its activation tiles: The easy part is done, now i have to make a scenario ... any ideas ? Not Quite Dead
Scavenging ones daughter's toys in order to build a Conan miniature... Cimmerian fatherhood is really something else. Joke aside, excellent job: the flying ape is really convincing, with a stunning base (although it is square instead of round)! Thanks for the tuto!
Arthadan
Impressive! However, to be perfect it needs a belt (according to Howard). Edited May 14, 2017 by Arthadan
Bawon Samdi
Thank you. I don't know for the belt but i consider adding Conan's sword laying down at its feet.

Stonewolf
Whatever you started with that end result would happily grace my table, really nice job
narayannis2
Dear friends, enchanted by Bawon Samdi's idea, I decided to create the Winged Ape myself! Here is the result: I bought a painted King Kondo (no time or talent to paint one from scratch), and for the wings, I used the ones from a Plastoy Red Dragon: And added some epoxy putty above them, to cover my tracks :) The base is a simple thick cardboard circle (without it, the Ape would fall because of the wings' weight) The belt is scratch buit from cardboard and pin heads. That's all! I hope you like it. Bawon Samdi, I'm eternally grateful for your idea!!! Edited September 27, 2017 by narayannis2
Bawon Samdi
awesome. It totally works. I have hesited a long time for the type of wings but for bat wings i would probably had done the same. There are plenty of cheap plastic dragons for good bits and peaces. I will probably try a "dragon" next, like in this post:

Are you sure? I see no reference to a belt, but then I could be having an old man moment and missing it.... :)
narayannis2
If you see the drawing on the tile, the Ape has a belt. Now if this is mentioned in the story, or it's just the artist's thing, I honestly don't know...

Not Quite Dead
Suspenders, @Mekhlis, are a most obvious choice. Edited September 30, 2017 by Not Quite Dead
