  1. To summarize the Xuthal Crowns conversation:

@Ken is using the Crowns in his final scenarios to give the Heroes some protection against Thoth Amon's sorcery.

Could these crowns be easily added into other scenarios?

I can easily add one into mine, so the Heroes will have at least one.

Could the other one be added in somewhere? In a side chest? In the asset deck for your scenario? Swapped out with a non essential item? The Heroes would be aware of its usefulness in the final scenario but may or may not decide to go after it?

Based on @Primeval's thoughts, there is no reason to over complicate things by requiring the crowns to be carried over in each sceanrio. We would just assume the Heroes carried them along with other out of game campaign related gear.

No need to come up with special rules or benefits for the Crowns, what Ken has in mind will be THE benefit and make them worth going after. Really kind of just need a chest to put them in.

Ken already mentioned that he could simply write them in his but could this be an opportunity to enhance our story by providing a substantial choice/sub-goal with in the overall campaign?

Hopefully I'm not coming across as pushy. I just don't want this conversation to get buried. :)

I have Conan with all expansions. I’ll gladly playtest anything you guys have.

    Awesome, thank you!

This link is to the forum that has all the latest versions of the scenarios and it's the place to give your input.

  3. I apologize. I'd use a different browser but I have the tech skills of a Cimmerian. The only thing I know how to do on a computer is turn it on and complain that it isn't doing what I want it to do. :)

That is why I have a deep appreciation for guys who have the skills. Thank you! @tet2brick

  4. @tet2brick I have no problem with whatever you feel you need to do with you website.

However, I did recently encounter a strange glitch. When I click on my scenario to edit it none of my data is there, but when I click to display it everything I have saved is there. Any ideas?

Update: Specifically none of my text is showing up in the Editor in the Special Rules section for example. When I opted out of the crypto mining system on my phone everything seemed to work. I haven't been able to opt out on my lap top- or if I did, it didn't have an effect.

  5. @Ken !! The Trap was epic!  @Footballzs called the combining of the tunnels and the ruined fort a "masterstroke". I couldn't agree more.

    What I liked:

    - No spells for Thoth Amon- at first I was wondering about this and almost asked if you forgot to give him spells.  But as I thought about it, storywise, I imagined him being busy keeping Yogah under control, or drained from slaughtering Aquilonians and then scurrying around like a rat to keep away from vengeful Heroes. I liked it.

    - Conan being heavily armed and armored. Great balance to the Atali mechanic. He will be picking crossbow bolts out of that scale armor for a long time after my game! I figured he would be a goner in a hurry- but that armor made it hard to hit him- Yogah got a good hit in- but that drained Yogah and ultimately cost him his life.  And the cinematic imagery of him walking into The Trap like a badass was epic.

    - Atali- she kept luring Conan in, it worked really well. Had I moved her one more space, the Overlord would have won because Conan would have had to go the other way, away from Thoth Amon.

    - Hadrathus with Mental Torture- otherwise they would have never gotten past that Dark Demon

    A couple questions-

    - Does Yogah roll for damage if he goes Cautious?

    - I had a situation where Conan had 2 OL units on him- making it so that I had to spend gems even if I wanted to move him.  In your rules for Atali it says Conan MUST use 1 FREE move to move toward Atali- in this case the 1 Free move point would have gotten him no where. So I chose not to move, meaning I didn't spend any gems to move him that turn. Did I play that correctly?

In my game Hadrathus died in the tunnels and Ikhmet was mostly dead in the tunnels, he spent 2 turns trying to find  a Life potion, 2 turns trying to catch up and managed to get a slight wound in on Thoth Amon's last turn beat down. Like I mentioned had I moved Atali 1 more space the Overlord would have won. Conan survived with 1 gem left- and that was pure luck. Crossbowman rolled a 2 and Conan's armor rolled a 2.  SO the game could have gone the other way easily.

This will be a great climax to the Campaign!

If the scenarios are consecutive, then they would need to carry them throughout the campaign. If that is the case, they should at least provide a benefit in those scenarios (for example, some form of spell protection). It might be too late to include something like that, though.

I definitely don't want to complicate things at this point.

For my scenario I have the Stygian Artifact (the artifact represents a Pendant that is evidence of Thoth Amon's plot) in the very last room of the Tower and the Heroes need to grab it on the way out to win. I could easily substitute the Xuthal Crown with just some minor rewriting. And since it is the last thing before the exit there would be no need to give it a special benefit. (and no time to use it anyway, the Heroes are running for their lives!)

I guess I see the benefit that the Crowns provide in the final scenario as THE benefit that makes them worth carrying. Because that is a pretty big benefit in the Streets of Khemi.  So I guess I would make a case that no other benefit is necessary.

The Crowns only weigh 1, so they won't weigh anybody down too bad. Other than Hadrathus' Spellbook no one has specified any other carry over items and other than Conan in the either of the last scenarios  I think most of the Heroes have a little extra room to carry an item, if I'm remembering correctly.

All that to say is I can work one mine in if that is what is decided. And I think we can work in the other with out disrupting things too much.

  7. In the Fate of Yag Kosha (@Primeval) I encountered an interesting thing. In order for the Heroes to win Hadrathus needed to drop his spell book to have enough movement points and gems to make it to the fire and thus win the scenario.

This got me thinking, especially if we add in the Xuthal Crowns, because those would need to be carried through out the entire campaign, maybe we ought to include rules for dropped items. Like if a Hero drops a carry over item, if they don't retrieve it before the end of the Scenario, they lose it. This wouldn't work for weapons because those change from scenario to scenario and a Hero will always have the gear they need. But for critical items like the crowns (if we go that route) and spell book maybe the Heroes ought not be allowed to be so reckless.
    Thoughts?

    Good catch.

Originally, I had intended for the heroes to potentially receive either one or both of the Xuthal's Crowns in a previous scenario (perhaps as chest items) which carried through to the final battle. If they can't be worked into a previous scenario, then I will need to add them as chest items within the Streets of Khemi.

(Note: If we can work them into a previous scenario, then players can choose who starts with the crowns. In addition, I will need to figure out how to add them to The Trap.)

I could easily write one into mine at the tail end when Shaung Mian disappears. That would guarentee at least 1.

I wonder if one of the other guys could include the other one in a chest? And that one could be more optional maybe? Beneficial, but optional, providing the Heroes an opportunity to make a real choice maybe?

@Neil Amswych this might work in Fight or Flight to make going after those chests more attractive... maybe? Maybe in the building with the pirates, who have no idea how valuable their treasure is...

I updated scenario 5a - The Streets of Khemi to include our new campaign rules and a few other significant tweaks. I will try to playtest it this weekend, but if anyone wants to take a look I am uploading it here.

    @Ken

I may be overlooking something, but which Hero starts with Xuthal's Crown? (in The Streets of Khemi)

Just after a quick read through, things look great. I'm especially interested to see how that Sorceror's Stack plays out.  (And I really like Niord in Stygia and Atali with Kiss of Death)

Hoping to play through The Trap tonight. (only had time to set it up last night)

I really like the difference in Heroes, equipment and spells between the two. Each scenario is really going to be a unique conclusion to the campaign. This will really help with re-playability.

As for movement - do you think I should send the heroes in rested at full health since they are going to need all the movement they can get? I can rewrite the intro to reflect that as well.

    @Primeval

I don't think that is necessary. Ultimately it's only one gem because the Heroes recover 2 of the 3 that start in the fatigue zone right away. I will try to play it again with the changes tonight or tomorrow.

  11. @Primeval

I played The Fate of Yag-Kosha. Heroes won once, Overlord won once. Both were similar in that the side that won really wore the other side out while staying strong themselves. For example when the Heroes won, it was no problem dispatching the suddenly appearing Assassins, when the OL won, the Heroes had no hope of escaping the Assassins.

    A couple notes:

    On the map:

Place tokens on the rock slides

Maybe use red doors to signify that you have special rules?

Maybe point out exactly which area you mean for the Heroes to throw the Artifact into the fire. I know there is a big fire on the map, but you know how gamers can be. ;) Clearly labeling it will dispel all doubt and potential confusion. (Maybe mark it with the red X or call it "the area with the number 2 token" or mark it with an event flame token.)

Events- like I mentioned earlier- make sure you write in there that only one event is to be activated- again just to dispel the possibility of confusion.

One other question I had was for the Viridian Wings event- I took it as written and put the Heroes any where I wanted- usually as far away from the goal as possible. Did I do that the right way?  Typically I put the Hero outside of the Fortress so that they had to spend huge amounts of gems to get back in.  BTW I liked how it could only be used once per zone it might be a good idea to tell people to some how mark the zones that the event has been used in.

One suggestion- the Assassins- maybe cut them down to 3. Since they are going to appear near the end of the game and chances are the OL is just going to drop them on top of the guy with the Artifact and then hit the Hero with the Crushing Burden event- dang... gets potentially overwhelming.

Over all things clicked well. The events are cool and critical. Movement is a huge issue because no one has the Climb skill and the rock slides are brutal- both sides need to be aware of that. Both Heroes and OL had to be creative to win. The frustration of being tossed out of the Fortress in a lotus daze was equal to the frustration of killing the Outer Dark Demon in one attack.

  12. Here is a great opportunity for the English Community to get involved. Not so much with a Compendium project but a Community Generated Campaign that will be made available to download.

The goal is to create a campaign with light progression elements, which is a high demand item, using just the components available through retail. Stygia, Nordheim, Khitai, Crossbowmen, Yogah of Yag, and the retail Core Box.

We have the bulk of the writing done and we are in need of play testers! Please join us. Especially those of you who have expressed advice, critiques and opinions on the recent English Compendium! We need all that for our Community project. Your input is weclome!

  13. I'm still excited. Planning on getting #2 on the table tomorrow and #3 on Wednesday. (and completing my side quest one eventually as well).

I agree with @Ken  No mater what, once this is completed it will be a success and an awesome resource that will always be available.

I think this scenario uses a few kickstarter items (the powerful giant scorpions and the Idol of Yag-Kosha). I could be wrong...it gets confusing which items we can use.

That is a bummer. I just double checked and can confirm that those are Kickstarter items.

The Stygian Artifact might be a suitable sub for the Idol of Yag...

If we’re doing side missions, could we do one with a pack of wolves?

@Neil Amswych The Wolves tile in the Nordheim expansion is identical to the Hyenas tile in the core box. The Giant Wolf models, unfortunately, are KS Exclusive.

  16. I started working on what I hope will be a great Optional Sidequest. I'm planning on using the one retail component we haven't worked in yet, the Kushite Witch Hunters. (also the Village map, Hyenas and Belit's Guards) And it will involve potentially losing Hadrathus' spell book for the remainder of the Campaign. It would go after Scenario 2.

My idea is that it can be used to add replay value to the entire campaign, maybe an optional extra challenge for Heroes that are having too easy of a time and of course putting those Witch Hunters to good use. I'll keep you posted.
