Dozens of new objects to add to your Equipment or Treasure Deck. Mostly worthless, but worth a big laugh... PDF FILE: Deck of Worthless Objects (for Conan_Monolith) (v1.1 2018) New version - see download below!! NEVER AN EMPTY CHEST - NEVER A DULL MOMENT IN AN INN OR DURING A CASTLE FEST Bored of empty chests or rules that only say that your recently opened chest is empty? Or is the Campaign you play too easy because all the heroes acquired valuable items during the 1st and 2nd scenario? Well here are some cards to make a Treasure Chest deck, full of worthless and mostly useless objects. But they are worth a laugh and therefore - maybe - even priceless. Off course you have to add some serious stuff to the treasure deck also. On the other hand ... some worthless objects can be throwned to a specific target. Although they shatter easely, these worthless objects aren't useless entirely. Rules for Worthless Equipment Cards These cards are essentially designed for treasure chests or token rewards. I wanted to make the rules for the cards as simple as possible. Objects without a range token, with encumbrance 0, can be used as empty chest items. They are utterly useless and worthless, but they are worth a laugh off course. Equipment cards with a ranged symbol can be thrown to another miniature (plastic model) or to an object (if the scenario has one specified). Throwing an object works like throwing a knife or axe; with the following rules: 1) Before throwing, name the object you want to hit; you can only target 1 object (usually a miniature) 2) Broken flask symbol: The object can only be used once. As soon as it is thrown, it shatters when hitting a target (or when missed: it shatters on the ground or the floor). 3) Numbered Ranged symbol: the black and white ranged symbol means the maximum range. Example: the Stygian Chamber Pot has a range of 1. It can be thrown in your own area, or in any adjacent areas with a clear line of sight. It cannot be thrown into an area which is 2 spaces away from you (dont count your own area). Normal hindering rules for ranged attacks applies. PDF FILE: YOU FOUND ME! Description: YOU FOUND ME! This cardset can be used together with the Worthless Objects - Equipment card set (designed for Conan Monolith). You can use these cards for specific scenario rules, e.g. find the princess, find a key, find the sword/treasure/man etc. You can use the 'You Found Me' cards in various ways. For example, in the beginners scenario 'In the Clutches of the Picts', it works as follows: 1. Static placement For the 'In the Clutches of the Picts' scenario, place the numbered marks on the gameboard, as shown in the setup diagram. Now, make a Worthless Object - Equipment deck of at least 7 cards, or more if you want some random variety (in this scenario, Pict camp, it is suggested to add several Pictish objects). Don't add ranged cards with the shatter symbol for official scenarios, since it can unbalance the scenario (If you want to use some one-time-only Worthless Objects with the shatter symbol, you have to tweek the scenario). Shuffle the deck without looking at the cards, and draw seven cards. These cards resembles 7 random token numbers. Now add the Princess (or another card with the text: you found me). Shuffle the deck again and lay them in a row next to the gameboard, each card adjacent to another, with the backside up (you cant see the objects). After this, place on each card a number marker, the same amount and the same numbers which are on the gameboard. As soon as you enter a hut, remove the number marker from the gameboard and draw a Worthless Equipment card with the same number marker. Did you find the princess or just some 'dust and dead flies'? 2. Random placement Same as above, but place 8 shield-style tokens in the huts, numbers are not needed). Shuffle the deck. As soon as you enter a hut, remove the token and draw a card from the Worthless Equiment deck. Find your Princess -- ahh ... You found me! Random placement Variant: make a deck of 7 cards, 1 card is the Cimmerian beer mug, the rest is your own choice, but no other ranged-single use cards may be added to the deck (or tweak the scenario and add more single use ranged objects to the deck; in that case the Overlord may regenerate more gems in the Book of Skelos...). After you have succesfully entered 2 huts, shuffle the princess card into the deck. In this way, you cannot find the princess in the first two huts. Less luck, more skill, more fun! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really like that miniature from Fenryll shop. I feel sympathetic for all those innkeepers that keep getting their inns destroyed by PCs. Rolepaying games are bitchy to NPC commoners.

  8. In the campaign The Legend of the Devil in Iron, the heroes must free a shady merchant, the Argossean Publio, from the city watch. Instead of a grey token, I chose to use a miniature by Fenryll, from the Inquisitor and suppliciers pack. Here is my Publio:

These are 20 Conan Tiles (in English and French versions) as well as Pawns for Leaders, Monsters, and Minions from the game The Others: 7 Sins. The art from that game was also by Adrian Smith, the same artist as Conan. These are useful for creating custom Conan scenarios featuring Demonic forces for the Overlord. Some ideas for special rules for the demon minions (in addition to their ability icons)... Children of Ajujo -- Stench: Heroes in the same space regain 1 fewer gem from fatigue to reserve at the start of their turn. Hags of Hell -- Distraction: Heroes in the same space cannot make any ranged attacks. Horrors -- Terror: Heroes must use 1 extra movement point to enter their space. Crawlers -- Pounce: When attacking webbed Heroes, add 1 extra yellow die with reroll to their attack. Sons of Nergal -- Acid Blood: When killed, cause area attack of 1 orange and 1 yellow die against any Heroes in their space. Screamers -- Shriek: Heroes in the same space must pay 1 extra gem to cast each spell. Rippers -- Shred: When attacking Heroes wearing armor (passive defense), reduce Heroes' passive defense by 1.

  20. I originally posted this on Board Game Geek in a discussion about creating "balanced" scenarios for Monolith's Conan board game. People responded positively to it so I thought it might be useful here. I've only made one scenario that I felt was good enough to share out of several attempts. So I'm no expert, but here are my thoughts anyway. #1 Play a lot. Play through all the Official scenarios. And play as many unofficial fan made scenarios as you can find. The Official scenarios will help you understand how a scenario is "supposed" to be. And the Unofficial ones will help you see what works and what doesn't work. You will also learn what effects balance. Circular Strike in Hunting the Tigress wrecks the scenario. But a high reinforcement value in Blood Red Dawn (Nordheim #1) nullifies Circular Strike. Archers balance out Evasive. Ranged weapons for the Heroes can snag an escaping Villian at the last second. A tempting treasure chest just a little too far away can run the clock out on a greedy Hero. Blocking can make a heavily armed Hero pretty much useless. Single gem attacks with Ambidextrous make the Overlord spend extra gems on Defense rolls for heavily armored Monsters. By playing as much as you can you will see what works and what doesn't. What you like and don't like. #2 Play by yourself first. That way you aren't wasting anyone's time. This is especially true when playing a fan made scenario, whether yours or someone else's. This will also help you detect problems with your own scenario, because you know what each side is going to do, so you have to really think through each move. #3 Avoid excessive special rules. Conan is a great game, custom scenarios should not "reinvent" the game. I want a Conan scenario, not a new game that uses Conan components. Keep it simple. And steal special rules from Official scenarios. I loved the way the Crows reinforce in the Nordheim expansion, so I used it it mine. Or the interrogating the priest's in The Wrath of Anu. Poison in Stygia. Steal Official special rules for your scenario, rather than invent your own, you already know they work. This also keeps everything uniform so other players will understand the rule. Meaning, for example, use Monolith's poison rules, rather than inventing your own. #4 Avoid using too many pieces. The Conan minis are awesome. I want them all on the board, but that rarely works out well. Conan is not a table top war game, it's a scenario based skimish game. By definition it uses less mini's and more story... which leads my next point... #5 Write a good story. We all love Robert Howard's stories. Honor him with your story telling. Craft a good story and build your scenario around it. Fit the minis, board, special rules and other game mechanics into the story. Nordheim is great because it loosely follows The Frost Giant's Daughter story. A great story makes your scenario more immersive, you feel like you are in the story. The Unofficial scenario Torrid Night is a great example of this also. Great, funny story, with simple game mechanics to play out the story on the board. #6 Don't overly strive for a "perfect" balance, strive for a great game experience that brings people back for more. Balance is a strange issue because often times people seem like they feel a scenario is out of balance if they don't get the result they want. "It's impossible for the Overlord to win" or "I can't win with the Heroes." Just because a scenario is hard or even "impossible" for one side doesn't mean the game is wrecked and out of balance. 50-50 balance is fine if the players are evenly matched. 60-40 is better if one player is more skilled. Chess is a perfectly balanced game and it gets kind of dull in a hurry. Each Conan scenario is, in a way, a unique game unto itself. That's what makes it awesome. That is it's strength. A great example of a fun 60-40 scenario is the official scenario The Terrible Lovers. It is tough for the heroes to win, but it is a solid well balanced scenario. And most importantly fun and challenging. #7 Quit easily. If your scenario isn't working for you, it probably won't work for anyone else. Set it aside for later and try something else. #8 Have fun for Crom's sake. Or not. Crom doesn't care if you waste your time being frustrated over perceived "balance" issues or page after page of special rules. As long as enemies are crushed and driven before you and women are lamenting, everyone wins. These are just my thoughts, for what it's worth. (go easy on me, :) )
  21. This uses Core Box (retail) components. The heroes are trapped in an old fortress waiting for reinforcements. Can they protect Belit until the end of the 8th round? Can the Overlord get through the defenses the players can build? Heroes: Conan, Belit (w/ three guards), Shevatas, and Hrdarthus OL: Bossonian Guards and Archers, Captain, Skulthus, and the Outer Dark Demon (if summoned). Sorcery has a terrible cost, so summoning the demon costs 1 health or 1 of Skulthus' spells. Let me know what you think! 868 (2).pdf
  22. I tried to make something different. A Conan game at its core with encounters. I have play tested until the hero was able to win it. It may still need some refinement but at this point I would love some outside feedback. Enjoy. If Everyone likes this I will start part two. Quest of Conan Part One.pdf
  23. "After having spent the last of their ill-gotten gains from a rich but unfortunate merchant vessel, the Tigress got caught in a severe storm. But thanks to the skill of the heroes and the hardy crew of the Tigress, they survived Nature's fury. Now, with the seas calm once more, the lookout spots another ship. It appears to have taken severe damage from the storm, lying dead in the water. An easy target for the experienced pirates of the Tigress. Checking equipment and preparing to board, they maneuver the Tigress alongside the other ship. Suddenly a shudder runs through the hull. The crew looks around nervously, and then several enormous tentacles erupt from the sea as from an octopus of truly staggering proportions! Crewmen are picked up and pulled screaming to their deaths below the suddenly frothing waters. And as a laughter as cold and terrible as the crushing depths rolls in from the other vessel, foul sorcery reaches out with its claws of pestilence. Those of the crew of the Tigress it touches are transformed into mindless monstrosities bent on killing the heroes! Conan, Bรชlit, Hadrathus and Shevatas will have to act quickly to kill the sorcerer controlling the tentacled horror from the dark waters below, and prevent the monster from tearing the Tigress apart, killing them all!" 24. Two different versions of the Brutal Hammer. It give the holder of such weapon the skills of circular strike and wall wrecker, but comes at the price of 5 encumbrance. I hope to create a scenario soon that will use this. Let me know if there is a preferred file type other than jpg. Thanks
